Each year during the blessed month of Ramadhan, Muslims all over the world spend the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observing a community-wide fast. The annual fast of Ramadhan is considered one of the five "pillars" of Islam. Muslims who are physically able,  are required to fast each day of the entire month, from sunrise to sunset. The evenings are spent enjoying family and community meals, engaging in prayer and spiritual reflection, and reading from the Qu'ran.

This year round our Ramadhan month starts from the 1st of August and will continue for 30 days until Tuesday, the 30th of August (tentative dates). Dates will be confirmed when the new moon is actually sighted. Muslim people will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri after the end of fasting month.

Mengkuang Gift Baskets

Mengkuang (Pandanus odoratissimus), is a huge pandan-like plant that grows along the back mangroves and also found in the local jungles. The fruits can be eaten, and leaves may be used to weaving.

Weaving used to be a leisurely pastime of coastal village women in the east coast states of Peninsular Malaysia during the rainy months. Today, it is a thriving cottage industry. The tall, thorny leaves of the pandanus or mengkuang are collected, boiled, dyed and made into colourful gift boxes, mats, beach bags, hats, fans, purses, and slippers. Songket Wooden Gift Baskets

 Songket is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textiles of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. It is hand-woven in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold or silver threads. The metallic threads stand out against the background cloth to create a shimmering effect. In the weaving process the metallic threads are inserted in between the silk or cotton weft (latitudinal) threads.
